Compact, Lightweight & Easy to Maneuver. With its sturdy wheels and lightweight design, moving it around your garden is a simple one-person job.
Better with green than dry stuff. Bought mine to help with sunflowers and corn stocks. Ate it up really good, but did clog outtake with the dry stuff. Mainly because it was new and I was shoving tons in. Chip grade is really nice and small. Came with two bags and an extra pair of blades. Did not handle large dry branches, but again ate up the green ones.Lightweight. Easy assembly. Wheels little down graded and are just clipped in. Hopper was clogged and easily unclogged. Shut off and trip switch worked. Most of it is plastic, so longevity may not last on big projects. Definitely using it and low priced for what I needed.
Update:Refund or replacement was offered. I did not take it, but they did show a dedication to customer satisfaction.Original:Good at chipping wood; I put what is pretty much a small log into it and it worked well. It does not have a huge hopper, though, so don't be trying to put big wood into it.Made of a cheap plastic that breaks apart easily and the metals will come apart, too.Falls over if you don't have the wheels on it; the wheels come off too easily.I'm happy I didn't spend a lot on this product; good value.
I've had at least a half dozen shredders over the years, all of them at least twice the size and three times the weight of this one- there's a lot of plastic in this. Some of it is worrisome; for instance there's a piece that holds branches against the blade that really should be metal; it takes a lot of wear. The support (legs-wheels) is also pretty minimal, but it's not supporting a lot of weight. The motor, however, is quite robust and does a nice job with small branches (haven't tried anything bigger than 3/4 inch), at least while the blades are sharp. The blades appear to be a type that is common to many different machines and is easily available, but I haven't tried actually switching them. For general soft trimmings it is not so good- the mouths of these things are always small (so people won't be shoving in 6" branches) but this one is even smaller, and what they refer to as a "hopper" has a capacity of about a cup and a half. The supplied pusher is poorly designed and tends to catch when you try to pull it out. All in all a cheaply made machine, but then it was quite cheap, and it's getting the job done so far. Easier to put away than most. The blades stood up remarkably well through a season of use, but it's time to change them; so far I've wrestled with it for over an hour and pulled out a fairly impressive pile of tools without being able to budge a single one of the four screws that hold the blades. The way the machine is out together makes it very clumsy to do this, and the screws seem to have been tightened by a gorilla. I may just have to soldier on with dull blades.
Love this chipper. Its come in handy for clearing of a new property. Doesn't handle super big limbs but it's great for an older woman!
I've been using one of these for years and it has cut down nearly everything I've thrown at it. Dry or wet, hard or soft, woody or leafy, it will handle it. The result is a fine mulch that is great to spread back into the garden.Do be aware that it has some limitations:- The intake hole is small, only large enough to put in a branch at the maximum thickness, but not large enough for an adult arm. I imagine this is a safety feature to prevent accidentally shredding your hand, as well as to make sure you don't feed in overly thick branches. However this means you can only chip one relatively straight item at a time. Long, straight branches are no problem at all and take only a couple of seconds to go through. But if you're working with messier material like brambles, leaves, or very bendy pieces, it will be tricky to get them to fit in, and will take a lot longer to process.- When you feed in smaller and softer items like leaves, grass, or short stems, they can fall quickly through the machine and not have much time to get shredded. This will result in larger pieces, sometimes up to 4-5 inches long. This is not a problem with harder, thicker, or longer things, which consistently get shredded finely.- Be careful not to feed in anything too hard which can quickly ruin the blades. Make sure there are no pebbles, and limit the amount of things with very tough fibers like pine cones. Blades can last a long time as long as they don't meet these enemies. Blades can technically be sharpened and reused if you have the right whetstone or sharpener. The package also comes with one set of replacement blades.- It's a good idea to wear protective gear for eyes, hands, and ears while using this.
