Do I need a high altitude kit to operate at altitude?

High altitude adjustment is required for operation at altitudes starting from 2,000-5,000 ft. (610-1524 m). Operation without this adjustment will cause decreased performance, increased fuel consumption, and increased emissions. Consult the User Manual for your specific unit.

Do I need to add oil to the fuel mixture?

No. All AIVOLT generators have 4-stroke motors. Use of 2-stroke/cycle oil or other unapproved oil types can cause severe engine damage that is not covered under warranty.

Do I need to drain the fuel from the fuel tank before transportation?

Keep the unit level during transport to minimize the possibility of fuel leakage or, if possible, drain the fuel or run the engine until the fuel tank is empty before transport.

Do the dimensions include wheels or no wheels?

Dimensions designated as “Assembled” include the wheels.

Does the generator need to be grounded?

Local codes or ordinances vary. Consult a qualified electrician, electrical inspector, or local agency having jurisdiction to find out if grounding is needed in your situation before using the generator.

How can I avoid fuel-related problems?

Adding a fuel stabilizer (purchased seperately) extends the usable life of fuel and helps prevent deposits from forming that can clog the fuel system. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use.

How do I hook up my battery?

A quick-connect battery plug is pre-installed on the battery. Remove the cable tie securing the plugs then push firmly to connect them. Ensure that the positive (red) cable is connected to the positive terminal and the negative (black) cable is connected to the negative terminal. The cables and quick-connect plug must be fastened in order to charge the battery.

How do I shutdown the generator?

Turn off all connected electrical loads, allow the generator to run with no load to stabilize running temperature, then turn the unit off. Subsequent shutdown procedures vary between models. Consult the User Manual for your specific unit.

How do I start my generator in colder temperatures?

AIVOLT Portable Generators are rated for operation between 5°F (-15°C)–104°F (40°C). If the generator is exposed outside of this range during storage, it should be brought back within this range before operation. Refer to our Cold Start Guide here for temperatures under 40°F (5°C).

How do you calculate dBA ratings?

There is no industry standard for testing sound level of a generator. AIVOLT tests under its own conditions to determine the published sound level as a means of comparing one AIVOLT generator to another. Measurements are taken at an average distance of 25 ft.

How do you calculate LP(Propane) run times?

Run times are measured at 50% load for open frame traditional generators and 25% load for inverter generators while using a standard 20 lb. tank.

How long should it take to reset one of the breakers?

As quickly as unplugging all connected electrical loads and resetting the circuit breakers. If an AC circuit breaker switches OFF automatically, check that the appliance is working correctly and does not exceed the rated load capacity of the circuit before resetting the AC circuit breaker/s.

How often do I need to do maintenance?

Maintenance schedules vary between units, but all include hourly and lifetime hour routine maintenance items. Consult the User Manual for your specific unit.

How often should I charge my battery? For how long?

What happens if I overload the generator?

The circuit breakers will automatically switch OFF if there is a short circuit or a significant overload of the generator at each receptacle. Do not overload the generator’s capacity. Exceeding the generator’s wattage/amperage capacity can damage the generator and/or electrical devices connected to it. Consult the User Manual for your specific unit.

What is the Earth Ground lug for?

If this generator will be used only with cord and plug equipment connected to the receptacles mounted on the generator, National Electric Code does not require that the unit be grounded.
